Brown Bag "From Novel to Movie Ten Stories of the West

Brown Bag:  Wednesday, July 21,  Noon - Laura Anne Heller From Novel to Movie: Ten Stories of the West”  -  Heller is an Archivist/Librarian at the M. Dickinson Research Center at the National Cowboy Hall of Fame Museum in Oklahoma City.  Having received her B.A. from the University of Mississippi, and her M.I.L.S. from the University of Southern Mississippi,  she is the sole curator for an new exhibit, opening in mid January,  regarding novels about the west portrayed in film.  Ten authors are highlighted along with one novel or short story that later appeared on the silver screen.  Authors include Helen Hunt Jackson, Emerson Hough, Frank Hamilton Spearman, O. Henry, Eugene Rhodes, B. M. Bower, Harold Bell Wright, Vingie Roe, Edna Ferber, and Max Brand.  Novels and short stories that turned into films include Ramona, The Covered Wagon, Whispering Smith, Girl from San Lorenzo (from “The Caballero’s Way”), Four Faces West (from “Paso Por Aqui”), Chip of the Flying U, Shepherd of the Hills, The Splendid Road, Cimarron, and Singing Guns.
